A major Dorset motorsport event is celebrating 40 years as it gears up for an exciting return.

Weymouth Beach Motocross is preparing to put pedal to the medal and be an ‘unforgettable day.’

The event will take place on Sunday, October 20 at Weymouth Beach with a race start at 11.30am, although visitors are welcome from 10am.

During the day, audiences can watch skilled riders compete on the challenging beach track, showcasing talent in various race categories.

There will also be a special demonstration on Saturday, October 19 at 3pm and spectators are also welcome to watch the setup and see the excitement as the track takes shape.

Ryan Hope, President of Weymouth and Portland Lions Club said: "We are thrilled to celebrate 40 years of Weymouth Beach Motocross and to give back to the community that has supported us over the years.

"This event is a fantastic opportunity to bring everyone together for a day of fun and charity, and we invite all motocross fans and families to join us."

He also explained that ‘many similar meets are having a serious decline in numbers,’ adding that the Weymouth event is retaining its numbers well which ‘shows the popularity.’

The event which began in 1984 is free to attend and this milestone anniversary will feature a fantastic lineup of races, family-friendly activities, and fundraising efforts for the Lions Club.

The Lions Club will be hosting raffles and accepting charitable donations on the day and there will also be a range of activities, games, food stalls and merchandise vendors present.

On the day of the event, all vehicles will be banned from driving along part of The Esplanade and part of Custom House Quay, in both directions between 8am and 5pm.

Traffic will be re-routed through the one-way system around Alexandra Gardens to continue on The Esplanade, or can use Pilgrims Way for access to Custom House Quay

Weymouth Beach will also be closed from Weymouth Pavilion to the Jubilee Clock for the race preparation and racing from Saturday October 19 at 8am until Sunday, October 20 at 7pm.

The remainder of the beach will remain open, and dogs are also permitted.
