A tattoo artist from Dorchester has tattooed 'the one and only' after a famous pop star dropped into his shop for some ink.

James Galloway who runs Divine Ink Tattoos on Trinity Street can now call himself the tattooist of Chesney Hawkes.

The pop star, famed for his 1991 hit 'The One and Only', dropped into the Dorchester tattoo parlour to get his one and only tattoo, alongside his brother Jodie Hawkes and childhood friend Vic Irvine, a mutual friend of James', who is suffering from lung cancer.

The trio are big football fans and each got a pair of iron hammers tattooed on their left arms, the logo for Premier League side West Ham United.

"It was so fun on the day, it's Chesney's one and only tattoo, so I guess I can call myself his tattooist now."

Chesney held a fundraising gig in 2022, for Vic, who is head brewer at Cerne Abbas Brewery, and James said that the tattoo is something they wanted to do together.

He added: "It's all part of the same story and it is why they wanted to get it done.

"Doing the tattoo meant a lot to me as well, because of Vic's illness, so for me, I was honoured he came to me and that was as much of a buzz as doing it for Chesney."

James added: "He is on a bit of a tour and in the video you can see the tattoo which is great.

"I do like his music, and you just can't get that song out of your head, but he has got some good music, although, I've not had a chance to listen to his new one yet."

James has been tattooing since he was 17 but has only been running his shop in Dorchester for three years and says it has being 'going well'.

He is hoping that Chesney returns at some point to get more work done.

He added: "They might come back as they are talking about adding some dates to the tattoo, but I don't know when that might be.

"But I might get some West Ham players come down as Chesney has been recommending me to them."
