A charity offering freedom to those with limited mobility have been given an impressive donation to help them carry on their good work.
The team at Maiden Castle House care home, Dorchester, nominated Cycling Without Age Weymouth to receive a donation of £2,000 from their Chairman’s 2020 Fund to purchase a second specially-made trishaw from Copenhagen costing £10,000.
The fund was set up in 2020 to give back to community groups, services and organizations which directly benefit the residents and staff.
Cycling Without Age provides free rides to older people and those with reduced mobility on a specially made trishaw which is pedalled by a volunteer ‘cycle pilot’, which enables the passenger to experience travelling through their local community.
Ashley Smith, Home Manager, said: “We always look for ways to enhance the residents’ wellbeing and Cycling Without Age Weymouth enables them to experience the joy of being outdoors with the wind blowing in their hair, while reminiscing about some of their favourite places to visit locally. To see the smiles, it brings to the residents’ faces is priceless.”
Cheryl Prosser, a Trustee at Cycling Without Age Weymouth, said: “A huge thank you to Care South for this donation, which means the world to us as it was the last amount needed to purchase the new trishaw. You can see how much joy it brings, and we aren’t just cycling about in summer – the volunteers get people out and about all year round.”
