I ENDORSE Jeremy Bull’s Echo letter (Have Your Say 2nd October) in which he expresses concern with regard to the expansion of business activity on the Weymouth Gateway site.

However I doubt very much whether a new railway halt at Radipole will be forthcoming.

But he raises the very important issue that I also foresee with a potential huge increase in traffic once the new Marks & Spencer store opens in the not-too-distant future.

The success of this out-of-town retail shopping estate already has increased traffic movement in this part of town and, unless we address the future urgently, the snarl-ups will be a real problem.

The new store will have in excess of 200 parking places and will most certainly be an instant success that follows the opening of new M&S stores.

I wonder whether First Wessex buses are involved in early meetings to discuss whether their service No.2 will be sufficient to cope?

And will extra passengers on this route put into jeopardy their doubling up service for Park-and-Ride?

The continuing attraction of Gateway is really good news, though both Weymouth and Dorchester town centres will no longer have an M&S presence. (I still can’t imagine that there won’t be an M&S Foodhall in either town centres).

But for now, Jeremy Bull has raised a very important issue and time is against us.

The road system at present experiences traffic delays and is unlikely to improve.
