A swap shop which has prevented nearly five tonnes of rubbish being thrown away will return to Weymouth this weekend.

Dorset Council Waste Service will be holding another 'Give or Take Day' encouraging people to bring along any unwanted items and exchange them for free.

It will take place at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Chickerell Road in Weymouth on Saturday, October 12.

The last seven events prevented more than 4.7 tonnes of items from being thrown away, taken instead by delighted residents to reuse.

Visitors can browse among the items donated to see if there is anything they can make good use of.

Unwanted items can include furniture, clothing, kitchenware, tools, DVDs, toys and books.

Items not allowed include duvets and pillows, electricals, gas appliances and items in a poor condition.

A maximum of fifteen items can be dropped off from 9am until 12pm with doors opening at 9.30am.

If there’s a community interested in hosting their own Give or Take Day, with support from Dorset Council’s Recycling Team, they can request a copy of the toolkit by emailing wasteteam@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk.
