A motorcyclist is fighting for life after a serious crash on the A35 near Bridport earlier tonight.

Dorset Police received a report at 6.42pm on Saturday of a single vehicle collision involving a silver Yamaha motorcycle on the A35 west of Bridport near Eype.

Emergency services attended and the motorcyclist, a man aged in his 20s, was taken by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital for treatment to injuries that were believed to be life-threatening. His family has been informed.

Road closures have been put in place to allow the emergency services to respond and for an examination of the collision scene to be conducted. The road currently remains closed.

Sergeant Dave Cotterill, of the traffic unit, said: “We are conducting a full investigation to establish the circumstances of this collision.

“I would urge any witnesses to the collision, or the manner of driving of the vehicle involved prior to it, to please contact us.

“I would also ask any motorists with dashcam who were driving in the area to please check their footage to see if they have captured anything that might assist our enquiries.

“Finally, I appreciate this collision has resulted in a major road being closed and I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during the closure.”
