A 'heartwarming' show about climate change – inspired by a true story - is on its way to Dorchester.
On Tuesday, October 22, at the Dorchester Corn Exchange, the play Decommissioned will be taking audiences through a story based on the real life story of the town of Fairbourne, in Wales.
A spokesperson from Dorchester Arts said: "Inspired by a true story, Decommissioned is a “heart-warming, comical, and intimate” play about how we’re meant to care for children, fall in love and stay sane, while tackling the climate catastrophe.
"Gwynedd Council has listed an entire area, including the seaside village of Fairbourne, for decommissioning, at some point in the future, dependent on rising sea levels.
"But is it really more economical to decommission a village, or should residents be slowing down the coastal erosion?"
First premiered in 2023, the play received, with London Pub Theatres reviewer Amy Tickner describing it as "a great play with an imaginative setting, intimate and honest performances, and a visceral soundscape that brings the audience to a water-filled natural Welsh landscape as they are forced to meander through the realities of the climate crisis, …all the while being reminded that the world as we know it, is very quickly falling apart.”
Doors open at 7.30pm with the bar opening at 7pm.
Tickets cost £14 or £12 for member and concessions.
