There has been a major emergency response in Weymouth due to a house fire.
Large numbers of police officers, ambulance crews and fire crews are all in attendance of Southdown Road in Weymouth which has seen a cordon in place since this morning.
Emergency services were called at around 10.50am today following reports of a house fire.
One resident said they saw smoke "pouring out the property" with another saying it was "shocking and harrowing to see."
Crews from Weymouth, Dorchester and Portland worked to tackle a "well-developed fire" within the property.
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service said: "We were called to an incident at 10.51am today (4 October) at Southdown Road, Weymouth to reports of a property fire.
"Crews from Weymouth, Dorchester and Portland attended, and on arrival found a well-developed fire within the property.
"Eight breathing apparatus wearers used two hose reel jets and one main jet to extinguish the fire. Technical rescue equipment was used to stabilise the building."
The community rushed to the scene to help while emergency services dealt with the incident.
One person said: “I contacted a nearby paramedic who lives clos to us, and some ladies from Weldmar went to get wet towels.
“Everyone did what they could to pull together- I’ve seen people I never saw before on this street helping out.”
Two air ambulances were also sent to the scene as well as a forensics van.
A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 10.52am on Friday, October 4 to an incident in Weymouth.
"We sent two double-crewed ambulances, two air ambulances, an operations officer, and a tactical commander and to the scene.”
"We conveyed one patient by air ambulance to Salisbury District Hospital."
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 10.59am on Friday, October 4 of a fire at an address in Southdown Road in Weymouth.
"Officers are in attendance at the scene with the fire and ambulance services.
"Road closures have been put in place to allow emergency services to safely deal with the incident.
"Enquiries are being carried out to establish the cause of the fire, which is not currently believed to be suspicious."
Police and fire are still at the scene.
