Dramatic pictures show a car engulfed in flames after a crash on the A35 which forced the road to close.

Police officers and firefighters rushed to the scene of the crash involving two vehicles on the A35 near Bridport.

The road was closed heading east from the East Road roundabout to the Spyway turn off, near Askerswell, but has now reopened.

One of the vehicles had burst into flames and pictures show the car to be completely destroyed, but thankfully there were no reports of any injuries, police says.

The road closure caused chaos to traffic which built up in Bridport and motorists experienced severe delays due to roadworks on the coast road at Portesham, which made travel from Bridport to Dorchester difficult.
