A brilliant new first for Dorchester will see a courtroom opera take place in October.
Dorset-based Destination: Opera and Siire Hall Museum have teamed up to bring 'The Trial of Iago' to Dorchester's historic Georgian courtroom at Shire Hall on Thursday, October 10 and Friday, October 11.
The opera, led by international opera singer and producer Jon Valender, with soloist Cheryl Enever, have teamed up with writer/director Ed Viney to create the courtroom opera – which will include extracts from Verdi's Otello.
A spokesperson for Shire Hall Museum said: "Enter the world of the courtroom for a fun evening of passion and powerful music. Where jealousy and betrayal have profound consequence, singing in Italian makes perfect sense, and you get to decide the outcome."
Destination:Opera makes opera and music more accessible to all ages through performance, participation and mentoring.
Ed Viney works nationally as a writer/director and is the Festival Director of The Script’s The Thing.
The museum also engages its visitors with the history of justice and injustice, furthering its mission to protect and share its rich building and its history by putting on this new event.
The show is supported by the Dorchester Tourism Partnership’s Events and Experience Grant.
Doors and bar open at 6.30pm with the performance beginning at 7pm.
Ticket cost £15 and is suitable for anyone over the age of 11.
