A new opera derived from a Shakespeare classic will be performed at historic courthouse in Dorchester.

The Trial of Iago will take place in the courtroom of the Shire Hall Museum on High West Street, Dorchester on Thursday, October 10 and Friday, October 11.

It will use excerpts from Verdi's Otello, based on Shakespeare's tragedy about the general of the Venetian army and his wife Desdemona, whose lives are completely ruined by the deceitful, cunning, and cowardly Iago.

In this courthouse opera, the antagonist will be put on trial where the audience will see how jealousy and betrayal led to the murder of Desdemona. Audiences will play the role of jurors to decide whether Iago should be found guilty or not guilty.

The project is led by international opera singer and producer Jon Valender, soloist Cheryl Enever, and writer/director Ed Viney.

Doors and bar will open 6.30pm with the performance starting at 7pm.

Tickets cost £15 and are available to buy on the Shire Hall Museum website.
