A Hollywood star has been spotted in town as the cast for a major Netflix movie being filmed on Portland has been revealed.
It is believed that the filming is for a film adaptation of Ruth Ware’s bestselling novel ‘The Woman in Cabin 10,’ which sees Keira Knightley take on the lead role of a travel journalist.
Joining Keira Knightley is Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham and Australian star Guy Pearce whose films include Memento, LA Confidential and Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
Guy Pearce, who also played heartthrob Mike in Aussie soap Neighbours before going into films, has reportedly been spotted in Weymouth this week.
Other stars joining the already impressive cast include The Gentlemen’s Daniel Ings, Skins actress Kaya Scodelario, Sherwood star David Morrissey and The Morning Show’s Mbatha-Raw.
Viewers will also see David Ajala, Art Malik, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Gitte Witt, Christopher Rygh and Pail Kaye join the ensemble.
The thriller follows a travel journalist on a luxury cruise for a travel assignment, who witnesses a passenger tossed overboard late one night, only to be told that she must have dreamed it, as all passengers are accounted for.
Despite not being believed by anyone onboard, she continues to look for answers, putting her own life in danger.
Film crews can be seen set up in the area of Portland Port, with filming set to take place on luxury superyacht ‘The Savannah.’
A release date for the movie has not yet been revealed.
Portland has been the setting for a number of films over the years.
In 2015, Colin Firth was spotted on Portland filming scenes for The Mercy, a biopic of yachtsman Donald Crowhurst, who gave misleading reports which implied that he had sailed around the world when in fact he had remained in the Atlantic.
In 2008 Portland Harbour was used as a location for Richard Curtis pirate radio film The Boat That Rocked.
Portland Harbour was used as a substitute for the North Sea, from which rogue DJs played by Rhys Ifans and Bill Nighy broadcast illegally.
