Residents along a busy road in Weymouth came to the aid of an injured motorcyclist following a 'frightening' crash.

Police said a local man in his 60s was seriously injured in a crash involving his silver Honda motorcycle and a grey BMW 3 series car on Monday evening.

The driver of the car did not sustain any injuries.

Emergency services descended on Lynch Road at Lanehouse after police got a call just before 8.30pm. Road closures were put in place and it wasn't until the early hours of the next day that the route opened again.

One resident, who didn't want to be named, said: "It was fairly frightening.

"The weather conditions were appalling on Monday night; I just hope and pray they come out the other side.

"The people on the street are the ones who have to be commended - they came out and were holding umbrellas (over the injured man) as they waited for the emergency services."

Another resident added: "I think one of the people who went to help was a nurse. I am not sure if she was from one of the houses or one of the cars behind."

She added: "We have had our car hit twice on this road as cars come around the corner (from Lanehouse Rocks Road)."

Another resident who wished to remain anonymous said they would welcome some kind of traffic management for the one-way road such as speed bumps or speed cameras.

She said: "This road is lethal with the volume of traffic.

"In the summer you can see three or four cars a day going down the wrong way.

Police investigating the crash are appealing for witnesses.

Sergeant Mike Gatfield, of the traffic unit, said: “I am appealing to anyone who saw the collision, or moments leading up to it, to please contact Dorset Police.

“I am keen to hear from anyone who may have captured the incident on either dashcam or home CCTV footage.

“Finally, I would like to thank residents and motorists for their patience while the road was closed. This allowed emergency services to treat the injured man and carry out a scene examination.”
