Puddletown continued their dominant start to life back in Counties Two with a 45-0 thrashing of Bridport at Greenfields.

With the overnight storm clearing to the north of the county, blue skies and sun created perfect rugby conditions and Puddle didn’t take long to take advantage of this.

An early attack got Puddletown into striking distance of Bridport and it was debutant George Wallington who went over for the first try of the day, with Andy Edmunds slotting the conversion.

Following a brace of tries on the opening day it was James Elwood next on the score sheet having made his way through some traffic to get over the try line to the right of the spots. Once again converted by Edmunds.

Bridport came into the game as the 1st half went on as they knocked on the door multiple times, only to be rebuffed by a resilient Puddletown defence as the sides went in with Puddle up 14-0 at the half.

As the slope and wind came into the hands of Puddle they quickly went out from half time and got an early try with Chris Haynes crossing the try line for his first of the year.

Up next the captain got in on the act, Tom Yeatman going over, as his centre partner Elwood scored his second just minutes later.

It wasn’t all plain sailing in the second half with ill-discipline creeping in. Prop Dylan Trevor went to the bin for a high tackle as the penalty count continued to creep up. Yet Puddletown continued to deny an ever asking Bridport team.

As Puddletown worked their way back up the pitch, Wallington grabbed his second with a line break and touch down under the posts as Edmunds got his final points of the day recording a much improved 5/7 kicking.

The final act of the day came from 50 year old Barry Dovell who dotted the ball down in the corner just moments after coming on.

The match finished 45-0 and leaves Puddletown top of the table.

Man of the match James Elwood, reflected on the performance and result after the game.

He said: “Today we played with real heart and the whole team left everything on the pitch. It was great to see such a huge defensive shift put in by all.

“You can’t ask for more than 3 wins from 3. But we still feel like we haven’t played to our full potential. I am excited to see what we’re capable of when everything comes together.”

Following a weekend off, Puddletown cross the ridgeway to face off against fellow unbeaten side Weymouth on October 5.
