Portland Skatepark has changed hands from Dorset Council to Portland Town Council.

At the full Portland Town Council meeting on Thursday, September 18, councillors approved the transfer of the Portland Skatepark from the county council.

Although the exact terms of the transfer are confidential, the price that Portland Council will pay to Dorset Council is £1, plus associated legal costs with the freehold transfer.

Cllr Carolyn Parkes said: "This is a great site in Underhill. It is well used by kids and adults love it.

"I would hate to see it go, and I support us taking it over."

This transfer is part of the Local Government Reorganisation first initiated on April 1 2019 concerning assets once managed by the now defunct Weymouth & Portland Borough Council under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Dorset Council.

This includes the phased transfer of parks, gardens play areas, and similar assets.

Under the MOU, Portland Town Council has already been managing the site since 2019.

It is anticipated that the Portland Town Council's legal costs to transfer properties from Dorset
Council will be circa £1,000 to £1,500 for a straightforward freehold transfer.

It was opened in 2010 and cost £200,000.

It is all concrete and consists of both street and transition obstacles.
