An electrical fault has sparked a fire at a Bridport home - with flames spotted through a window.

Firefighters from Bridport Fire Station rushed to a property in the town after a neighbour heard the smoke alarm blaring.

Upon investigation, the neighbour could see flames through the window which was when they dialled 999.

Both fire engines were called out to the address and the blaze was extinguished by two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.

A spokesperson for Bridport Fire Station said: “Both pumps mobilised to a property fire in Bridport.

“A neighbour was alerted after hearing a smoke alarm sounding and upon investigation, they noticed flames within a property and dialled 999.

“Crews gained entry to the property and used 2 BA wearers and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

“The fire was due to a fault in an electrical circuit,

“It goes to show how important smoke detectors are, and the importance of not ignoring the beep. This prevented what could have been a far worse situation.”

It has not yet been disclosed where the property is located.
