Thousands of cans from Dorset have been saved from landfill thanks to a local environmental group.
The incredible amount of cans collected by the Weymouth and Portland Marine Litter Project (WPMLP) over the summer period will now be recycled by Exeter City Council.
Approximately eight large dumpy bags were filled to the brim with all sorts of cans including coke, cider and beer cans.
Not only does the scheme raise money for local environmental projects, but they also pay £50 a tonne to dispose of the recycling.
The Weymouth and Portland Marine Litter Project was founded by Jane Fuhrmann and Dave Taylor with the main objective being to create community-based projects aimed at reducing the pollution from litter in our seas and on our beaches.
The team at the WPMLP have expressed their gratitude to everyone that has contributed to the collection, adding’ ‘you are all recycling superstars.’
