A WEYMOUTH town centre building, previously used as a restaurant, could be converted into rooms.
The Ruan Thai business moved out of the corner property on the junction of Bond Street and Maiden Street about two years ago to continue trading elsewhere with the building remaining vacant since then.
Now the London-based owner is seeking planning consent to convert the 77 square metre ground floor former restaurant into lettable rooms, also using the rooms above for accommodation.
Floor plans for the proposals show the basement for storage with a shared kitchen and reception area on the ground floor; three bedrooms on the first floor and four bedrooms on the second floor, each with a shower and toilet.
A planning statement to Dorset Council asking for permission for the change of use from a restaurant with living accommodation above, to a home in multiple occupation, says that the exterior will remain and same and by bringing the building back into use, providing the owner with income, will help maintain the property.
Ward councillor Jon Orrell has raised no objection to the change, commenting that with changes to the economy increasing the number of people who can live in town centres makes sense.
Public comments on the application, 2024/04794, on the Dorset Council website, remain open until the end of September.
