Two police officers were ‘assaulted’ shortly before a man gained access to a hospital roof.

As previously reported, police were called to reports raising concern for the welfare of a man on a roof at Dorset County Hospital. Assisted by the fire service and the NPAS helicopter, it took six hours before the man was taken to safety at around 12.15am on Thursday September 5.

Police are now appealing for witnesses as they investigate reports that the man allegedly assaulted two officers before gaining entry to the roof.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “We are also investigating a report that two officers were assaulted prior to the man going onto the roof.

“The officers did not sustain serious injuries, however we take all reports of assaults on emergency workers very seriously and would urge any witnesses or anyone with information regarding the incident to please contact us.

“We would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding as the emergency services responded to this incident and all those involved in bringing it to a safe conclusion.”
