Another glimpse of Dorset in bygone days awaits us on these pages.

These old pictures were taken by talented Harry Green, who was an Echo photographer throughout the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Here is another collection of his wonderful photos showing life in Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester in bygone days.

Fiat 600 at Weymouth Quay Fiat 600 at Weymouth Quay

Who can blame these women for pausing to admire this classic car at Weymouth Quay?

This is another picture from the collection of late Dorset Evening Echo photographer Harry Green. It's called 'Fiat 600 at Weymouth Quay'.

It's a quirky looking car that almost looks as though it's back to front! This small, agile vehicle was popular in a number of countries in the 60s, 70s and 80s. The compact little car is just 10ft 7ins long and its engine was in the rear.

Pennsylvania Castle Pennsylvania Castle

This evocative image is of Pennsylvania Castle on Portland, with its recognisable ramparts and coastal views.

The castle appeared as Sylvania Castle in Thomas Hardy's 1892 novel The Well-Beloved.

It is believed that during the Second World War, Winston Churchill, General Eisenhower and General de Gaulle visited the castle, where they met to finalise their plans for the Normandy landings.

Cornhill, Dorchester Cornhill, Dorchester

Another picture shows Cornhill, Dorchester, the Town Pump and the point where South Street meets High Street.

As you can see, back then South Street wasn't pedestrianised and a large vehicle is making its way down the street. Wilkins the bakers was on the left as you would enter South Street.

Here at the Echo we initially thought the large vehicle was a double decker bus, but it appears to be a furniture van.

One reader writes: "This appears to me to be a furniture van, either loading or unloading, probably at the shop of Shepherd and Hedger, which was located in Cornhill."

This image of gift shops on Weymouth Esplanade was taken by Harry in the early 1970s.

There are some youngsters enjoying themselves eating some treats by the seaside and in the background is the famous Rossis ice cream shop.

It looks as though bingo was popular at the time the photo was taken, there's both an A-board and a sign advertising bingo games.
