Armed police were spotted storming a property in Weymouth last night.

Residents told how police including armed units were called to an incident in the Park District.

Roads were blocked off while the incident was dealt with.

The focus of the operation appeared to be a property in Hardwick Street near the junction with Lennox Street and Charles Street.

Police were seen about 9.30pm.

Dorset Police have now responded to the report- see our story here.

According to residents, Hardwick Street, Charles Street, Walpole Street, Brownlow Street and parts of Lennox Street were closed off whilst police dealt with the incident, with armed officers seen going into the property.

One resident of Brownlow Street said: “There were around three police vans down the corner of Hardwick Street, it seemed like a lot at the time.”

A resident of Lennox Street, who lived close to where the incident took place, said: "I saw it happening; there were two armed officers who entered the house and came out again soon after- it looked like they had arrested someone."

Another local said: "I was out walking my dog and two of the roads, Walpole and Brownlow, were blocked. A policeman told me to come back around 20 minutes so I went the pub, but when I came back the road was still blocked and so I had to go on another 20 minute walk- this was around 10pm.”

A resident of Walpole Street for 44 years, said: “I’ve heard there was a fair amount of police in the area, these streets can have a reputation sometimes but it never worries me.”

Another Lennox Street resident, said: "I heard that there was some aggro and drama yesterday, police cars are quite common in this area though."

A Charles Street resident commented: "It's horrible to hear about these things happening, but 99 per cent of the time it's a really quiet and lovely place to live."
