A swimmer from Bridport has said 'nerves crept up on' him as he narrowly missed out on a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Harry Stewart, 20, was competing in the SB14 100m breaststroke at the La Defense Arena in Paris and came in fifth place in a strong field.
Canada's Nicholas Bennett took the gold with Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Jake Michel matching his achievement from Japan and world record holder Noahide Yamaguchi had to settle for bronze and relinquished his title.
The Bridport swimmer, who has Asperger's may have come away without a medal, but the 20-year was pleased with his performance in his first Games.
He said: "I tried my very best and being fifth in the world is not too bad.
"The nerves crept up on me but I can improve on it next time - it was a very close race but it could have been anyone but well done to Nick."
Stewart has had a breakout year in 2024 which was capped by winning gold in the Men’s S14 100m Breaststroke at the European Para Swimming Championships in Madeira on his full senior international debut.
The breaststroke specialist opened his account for 2024 with a multi-classification bronze medal at his maiden World Series event in Aberdeen, ahead of securing the Para swimming national title in London at the Aquatics GB Swimming Championships.
