A father and daughter have swung their way to success through 14 hours of non-stop golfing to raise funds for an expedition abroad.

Hali Joyce Cumber, 17 from Charminster, attends Thomas Hardye School and is raising funds to travel to Borneo with the school to volunteer at Camp International’s Borneo expedition.

To help her fundraiser, her father Ross James Cumber took on a 72-hole golf challenge with Hali as his caddy at Came Down Golf Club.

He said: "I wanted to do my part in supporting her in anyway I could. Me and my kids are into golf and we came up with the idea of completing a 72-hole challenge.

"It's a well-known challenge format but we decided to add a twist and do it from dusk till dawn to see how many holes we could do in one day."

Ross and his daughter started the challenge at 5.30am to make the most of the daylight and try to complete as many holes as possible

However, the challenge got off to a shaky start as the pair had to deal with torrential rain and winds of around 30mph.

Ross added: "We stuck it out but we ended up losing the first ball in the rain and wind.

"Luckily after about hole three, the weather calmed down and we went full on from there.

"We were both extremely tired by end of day with many aches and pains but we received so much support from the staff and members of the golf club. Many were clapping us through as we were playing the last few holes."

After 14 hours of non-stop golfing and 26.8 miles walked, the pair exceeded the £1,158 raised so far.

Mr Cumber said he is "super proud" of his daughter and enjoyed the challenge as it meant he could spend quality time with her.

He added: "I'm looking forward to see her progress as this expedition will give her more experience of being independent and she will be able to see other areas of the world."

Hali is hoping to raise £5,000 in total to cover the cost of the expedition and will be completing numerous fundraising events throughout the year to raise enough funds before the trip next summer.

She added: "I thought that the day was really successful and the support from both the staff and the members from the golf club was amazing."
