Works are successfully continuing at a Weymouth shared green space.

Building works recently began at Tumbledown along Radipole Lane, a 27-acre former farm owned by Weymouth Town Council.

At present contractors are carrying out the groundworks, cladding and a final fix to a prefabricated wooden framed building and this is expected to be completed by mid-October, with some internal fitting to be completed after.

A new concrete path has also been installed from the Swallow Barn, all the way up to the raised bed area, this was carried out to replace an older path which had been damaged by runoff over the winter and help provide better access for those with mobility issues.

Asylum seekers based at the Bibby Stockholm also helped to design and build a clay pizza oven and additional food preparation area, although works have been slower than expected.

Footings are in place and blockwork has also started. Once completed, the plan is to use the kitchen for community cook-up events, although Weymouth Town Council have explained that residents of the barge may not be able to enjoy this as they ‘may not be present in the area after January 2025.
