Residents were surprised to see washing up foam coming from a fountain previously described as ‘ugly.’

Pictures were snapped of the fountain in Bowes-Lyon Place off the Queen Mother Square in Poundbury earlier this week showing what appears to be soapy water coming out of it.

It is believed that the fountain was vandalised as there were no plans to clean it.

One of the residents who came across the foam, joked: “It’s been done before, personally I think it looks good."

They added: “The Duchy are not going to clean it as they want to leave it to nature to colour the fountain.”

Another resident of Poundbury said: “It was a surprise to see as I thought the Duchy weren’t going to clean it.”

Another added: “Shame they didn’t use the bleach instead as it needs to be cleaned.”

As previously reported, residents were complaining that the fountain had not been cleaned of algae by land owners Duchy of Cornwall- calling it ‘ugly.’

He previously said: “It’s not going to be cleaned, we know at the moment it is rather an ugly green but it’s coming on so we would ask you to be patient with us.”

The fountain is one of three in the complex that the Duchy are responsible for, with the other features based on Longmoor Street and Victor Jackson Avenue.

The Duchy of Cornwall, Dorset Police and the Poundbury Residents’ Association have all been approached for comment.
