A man has appeared in court charged with abusing his position of power of attorney over a relative - defrauding a relative out of more than £80,000.

Lee Barnett, of Henson Park in Chard, appeared at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, August 28.

He was formally charged with one count of fraud by abuse of position.

He did not enter a plea.

Barnett, 36, is accused of dishonestly using his position as power of attorney over a relative to spend more than £80,000.

The charge refers to a period of time between June 1, 2022 and September 1, 2023, in Dorset.

It is alleged that Barnett committed fraud by acting as power of attorney for property and financial affairs for his relative Kenneth Rogers.

The case was adjourned until a hearing at Bournemouth Crown Court on September 26.

Barnett was released on unconditional bail.
