A drunk driver crashed into a garden, reversed out of it and drove off before crashing again.

Rebecca Jayne, of Fridays Heron in Cranborne, appeared at Weymouth Magistrates' Court on Thursday, August 22.

She pleaded guilty to four charges; driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level above limit, using a motor vehicle on a road without third-party insurance, driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving a vehicle and failing to stop after a road accident.

The charges refer to an incident on March 25, in Tarrant Keyneston, where Jayne failed to stop after a crash and then continued to drive through the village.

She drove without a licence and without insurance and when the proportion of alcohol in her blood was 174 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. More than twice over the legal limit of 80 milligrams.

Elizabeth Valera, prosecuting, said: “The defendant got into the car close to where she had been visiting.

“She drove through a fence into a garden.

“Witnesses tried to assist her but said she was abusive and appeared to be drunk.

“They asked if she was ok.

“Jayne then reversed out of the garden at high speed and hit the bank opposite.

“She then drove down the road on the wrong side, which was witnessed by a nearby driver.

“They saw the BMW fail to stop at the crossroads, causing other vehicles to do an emergency stop.

“She was seen ‘driving erratically’ at around 50 mph.

“She continued toward a left bend and she hit the left bank twice.

“She then over-corrected and hit the right bank, causing her car to overturn onto its roof.

“She failed to stop when she went through the garden and did not give her details.”

The case was adjourned until November 7 at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court, for pre-sentence reports to be prepared.

Jayne was given an interim disqualification from driving, which will last for six months or until she is sentenced.
