The long wait was finally over as students across Dorset gathered to collect their GCSE results.
Pupils at Dorset schools including Thomas Hardye in Dorchester, Budmouth Academy in Chickerell and All Saints Church of England Academy in Wyke Regis all picked up their results on Thursday, August 22.
GCSEs are graded numerically from nine to one, with many students across the area achieving grades between 7 and 9. This is equivalent to the old A-A* grades in almost every subject.
This was a "fantastic set of results" for pupils at All Saints Academy.
Chloe Clarke received the highest result in her year with a whopping nine 9s and two 8s.
She said: “I can’t believe it. I was nervous beforehand like everyone but I am so pleased.
"It is down to hard work in lessons and a lot of after-school studying.”
A heart-warming moment was captured between Melissa Ward and her mother Stephanie.
Stephanie said: “I am just so proud of her.
"She is my only one so this is the only chance I get to have this moment."
There were plenty of smiling faces at Budmouth Academy as pupils achieved "stand-out results."
Daniel Bushell achieved seven Grade 9s and an 8 and will be continuing to study at Budmouth 6th Form.
Lilia Jeffery exceeded her expectations, achieved five 9s in English Literature, Geography, Design and Technology, Art & Design, and Biology.
She said: “I’m feeling great. I did so much better than I thought."
She will also be staying on at Budmouth Academy sixth form.
It was also a happy day for pupils at Thomas Hardye School in Dorchester.
Charlie Howard said he was "absolutely mind blown" after getting seven 9s and four 8s.
He said: “I'm just overwhelmed.
"I'm grateful for the support and I will go on to study something I'm confident in.”
Abigail Sarfraz started year 11 in September after moving from Pakistan. She received all 7s in her subjects.
“It’s incredible, I was nervous at first - there was a lot of hard work within six months but I’m very happy.
"I’ll be studying biochemistry and maths in sixth form.”
Principal Lesley Bishop of Atlantic Academy Portland has said the school is "enormously proud" of the Year 11s who have achieved "remarkable results."
Amongst the highest achieving students were Bella Milnes, Taynesha Gill, Dayna Ridler-Edwards and Evan Jones.
Lesley Bishop added: "As all our students prepare to take their next steps—whether continuing their studies at a local 6th form or college, entering apprenticeships, or beginning their careers, we wish all of our students the very best for the future,”
