A PORTRAIT is to be unveiled for talented blues guitarist Tim Broad, who died in December at the age of 73.

An afternoon and evening of music will be held on Sunday, August 25, from 2pm to remember and celebrate the life of the much loved Weymouth musician.

Fellow musicians who played with Tim over the years will perform in the tribute gig.

It will be held at the Belvedere pub in Weymouth, where the owners have also arranged for a painting of Tim to be put on the wall, which will be revealed on the day of the gig.

Tim died on Sunday, December 17. He had been a familiar face on the local music scene for decades and musicians of all ages have paid tribute to him on social media, calling him an inspiration.

He performed at gigs in Dorset and beyond for 50 years, as a solo artist and also in a number of different bands.

He lived in Weymouth with his wife Maggi; the couple were married for 18 years.

Tim's niece, also a musician, said the gig will be a celebration of his life.

She said: "It was a packed service at the crematorium after Tim died, there were hundreds of people there.

"After that day we wanted to organise a day of celebration in his honour.

"The landlady of the Belvedere wondered if they could have Tim's painting on the wall in the pub, which is quite an honour as they have a lot of famous musicians on the wall.

"No one has seen the picture yet and it will be unveiled on the day, but it will be visible as you come into the pub with Tim watching all of the other musicians on the wall.

"On the day we will have performances from Tim's old friends including Ken Watkins and Chris Lonergan.

"My nephew Andy Broad is also going to be playing Tim's old guitar. Tim was his inspiration and he is a very good blues player himself.

"There will also be a jam session at the end so anyone can come and play.

"It will be an evening of really good music, I am sure it is what he would have wanted.

"He was well-loved and it will be a lovely day for him."

The gig will start at 2pm and continue until 11pm.
