Hundreds of people turned out to mark the sixtieth anniversary of an outdoor education centre.
Dorset Council organised an open day at the Weymouth Outdoor Education Centre, based on Knightsdale Road, to celebrate 60 years of operation.
Attendees were invited to try a range of adventurous activities such as rock climbing and archery, as well as the centre’s indoor caving tunnels and soft play room.
Along with the attendees were Dorset Council members, Cllr Stella Jones and Cllr Jon Orrell, who gave the Portland Stone outdoor climbing tower a try.
The centre offers a mix of activities for children, adults, local schools, organisations and is a provider of activities for children- included in the council’s Holiday, Activities and Food Programme.
Cllr Clare Sutton, Dorset Council Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Education and Skills, said, “Weymouth Outdoor Education Centre is a brilliant asset and one that we hope people will continue to use and enjoy for many years to come.
“The activities on offer allow adults and children to build their confidence and embrace adventure and the outdoors, whether that’s on land or on the water.
“Along with adventurous activities, there are also quiet spaces in the gardens and a sensory room to explore, as well as a soft play room for younger children to enjoy. Visit the website to see the full list of activities and facilities that the centre has to offer.”
