OWNERS of a pick-up truck which has been left to rot on a residential road in Weymouth are being urged to come forward.

Residents claim the vehicle - an orange classic-style Ford pick-up truck - has not been moved from Marina Gardens, off Wyke Road, for about three years.

It now appears to have become a dog poo bin as bags are discarded in the back - while moss and mould has started to grow on the road underneath.

Whilst the vehicle is not legally abandoned as it is apparently taxed, Dorset Council says it has 'started a legal process' to get it removed.

But it is hoping the owners can come forward and claim it before action is taken.

It made Echo headlines in March this year when the road was resurfaced for the first time in almost 30 years, but workers were forced to tarmac around the vehicle.

He said: "That van never moves. It's an eyesore.

"It is terrible and it is worse for my neighbours who are here all of the time.

"When I saw the resurfacing I could not believe it, I have never seen anything like that in my life.

"I am in construction myself, I have my own company. I'd have picked the wagon up, tarmacked and then put it back.

"If it was me I would put letters out every road near here and say if you don't claim the car it is going."

Mr Berry, another resident, added: "The company who did the tarmacking said it must be worth about £25,000

"It has been there for three years, dumped there.

"I have had people knocking on my door wanting to buy it, it is a collector's item.

"It ruins the view of the road.

"When it came, it was immaculate and now it has gone to rack and ruin.

"People now just leave their dog poo bags now, they use it like a bin and we have to clear it out.

"It is such a shame really because it is such a nice classic truck that was fully restored.

"All of the neighbours round here are fed up with it."

A Dorset Council spokesperson said: “Before the resurfacing works took place, we asked residents to move their vehicles and all did so, except the owner of this vehicle, unfortunately.

"It is taxed, so not an abandoned vehicle, and therefore within its legal right to be on this stretch of road. We are not allowed to access the owner’s details from the DVLA.

"We have commenced a legal process to enable the removal of the vehicle.

"However, this takes time and money so it would be more beneficial for Dorset Council taxpayers if the owner could heed our requests and simply move their vehicle.

"If they are having difficulties, we encourage them to get in touch with us.”
