A woman has been taken to hospital following a late-night assault.

It was reported that the woman was assaulted at an address in Commercial Road, Weymouth.

She was taken to Dorset County Hospital via land ambulance.

Police attended and it was further reported that two officers were assaulted, but did not sustain any serious injuries.

A 33-year-old man from Weymouth was arrested on suspicion of assault and drugs offences. He remains in police custody at this time.

The individuals were known to each other and police would like to assure people that there was no information to indicate any threat to the wider public.

The information comes as a large emergency presence was spotted in Weymouth during the early hours.

Witnesses described seeing police cars and ambulances attending the incident at an address on Commercial Road, Weymouth shortly after 12am today.

Commercial Road was also reportedly closed whilst police and ambulance staff dealt with the incident.

Enquiries remain ongoing at this time.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "At 11.21pm on Wednesday, August 7, Dorset Police received a report that a woman had been assaulted in Commercial Road in Weymouth.

"The individuals involved were known to each another.

"Officers attended and it was reported that during the incident, two officers were assaulted. They did not sustain any serious injuries.

"A 33-year-old man from Weymouth was arrested on suspicion of assault and drugs offences. He remains in police custody at this time.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

"We would like to reassure members of the local community that there was no information to indicate any threat to the wider public."

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 11.53pm on Wednesday, August 7, to an incident in Weymouth.

"We sent one double-crewed land ambulance to the scene and conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Dorset County Hospital.”
