Portland-based sailor Mickey Beckett was in the Bronze medal position -chasing Silver - when his Men's Olympic Dingy race was postponed.
After yesterday's medal race was postponed due to a lack of wind at the Marseille Marina sailing venue, the sailor who trains at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, was in prime position to claim a medals officials called the race off over halfway through.
He came into the race in fourth place overall, just five points behind Peruvian Stefano Peschiera and was in second place in the medal race, meaning he would take Bronze.
The Peruvian was languishing in last place meaning Beckett would leapfrog the South American sailor into the Bronze medal position.
Gold was not a possibility for the British sailor but with Cypriot Palvos Kontides in seventh place a silver was a possibility if the Cypriot dropped down the order in the fleet.
The race will have to be reschedule but a time as not yet been announced.
