Sailors based on Portland will be going for medals in two different races at teh PAris Olympics later today.

Team GB's sailing team, which trains at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, could add to its medal tally following Emma Wilson's Bronze medal in the windsurfing this afternoon.

Micky Beckett saw his medal race in the Men's Dinghy postponed yesterday, due to insufficient wind, but will now get a chance to compete for a medal in his rearranged race today.

He currently sits fourth in the standings but will be hoping to convert that he can convert his overall fourth place into either a Bronze or Silver medal - he is out of contention for the Gold.

Beckett's race gets underway at 12.13pm and say he has 'nothing to lose'.

He added: “I can go backwards a bit, but more importantly than that, I can get up to bronze and possibly even silver.

“These medal races, they're always chaotic. They're fast, and kind of anything can happen. So, I'm quite looking forward to it. I've really got nothing to lose.”

John Gimson and Anna Burnet did manage their scheduled three races in the Mixed Multihull (Nacra 17) event yesterday despite the widn issues.

They picked up their first race win of the regatta in one of them, to boost them into overall third going into their medal race  today at 1.43pm.

Burnet said: “It was a really good day. It was more of the same for us in terms of our approach.

"It was quite light winds again, so you just have to really focus on details and we did that. I think by the second race we finally won a race, the first one of this whole event, we felt like it was coming to us a bit more and it could be our day.  I think confidence grew from there.”

Elsewhere, Ellie Aldridge was promoted to overall leader overnight in the Women’s Kite event as a protest against the race jury’s decision to give her Swiss rival redress in an earlier was upheld.

However, the celebrations were short-lived, as she dropped her kite into the water in the fickle breeze on the Marseille course, missing the first race of the day.

She goes into the penultimate day of action in second, tied on points with the French rider Lauriane Nolot.

Aldridge said: “We normally have quite a lot of discards, so we can drop for quite a few races, but because we don't have enough races we won't have as many discards, so it just means that every race is really important. I need to not make any mistakes tomorrow.”

In the Men’s Kite, Connor Bainbridge rued two average race results in super light winds which drop him to eighth overall, but remains confident of reaching the Medal Series, planned for Thursday.
