Portland-based sailor Mickey Beckett is looking to claim Team GB's second medal in the Olympic Sailing Competition later this afternoon.
Beckett had a windless wait yesterday on the Men's Dinghy (ILCA 7) race course as competitors were at the mercy of the weather.
Light winds curtailed the racing schedule meaning Becket was unable to close the gap on his rivals ahead of today's medal race.
Despite now being out of contention for Gold, the sailor who trains out of the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy could yet bring home the Silver medal.
He currently sits in fourth spot on 67 points with Stefano Peschiera on 62 points in third and Pavlos Kontides in second with 52 points.
Ahead of the race he said; “It's going to be a bit of a chaotic race. I could be overtaken by a few people and I can overtake a few people, I can get up to silver.
"Being in fourth in the moment, I haven't got much to lose going into it. So that's the kind of race I'd like to sail.
“The aim is going to be to win the race. It's not going to be to pick on a certain person and try and finish relative to them. There's just too much chaos in it. The aim is to try and put together a good race and enjoy it.”
Beckett will get his medal race underway at 2.43pm in Marseille.
