One of Dorset’s favourite bands drew more than 1,000 people to the seaside on a sweltering summer evening.
Weymouth band the Leggomen recently performed a huge gig at the Boat Café on Weymouth promenade as part of their summer Sunset Sessions.
These impressive aerial images captured by the band’s photographer Martin Harvey, also known as Harvey M Photography show just how many people turned up to the gig.
The photographer reckons it was the biggest crowd he’s ever seen at a Sunset Sessions show.
He said: “The crowd was the biggest I’ve seen on the beach, around 1,500 I would estimate, and the atmosphere was incredible, it showed people what Weymouth is all about.
“Lots of people were on their feet dancing and singing and I would like to make a special mention for 'The Boat' who put this on, they are flat out whilst the lads are playing, and brilliant all at the same time.”
Audience members were up on their feet dancing the night away and singing along to a track list full to the brim with popular songs.
One audience member said: “The band certainly draw crowds; I have never seen so many people here.”
The Leggomen guitarist and vocalist Olly Coe said: “Last year was really good and it seems to have just got bigger and bigger from there. We even had a support band (The Hooked) this time.
“My favourite thing has to be seeing the beach used in that way. It’s great to see so many local people coming down to support us.
“It’s good for the town and we want to be able to give something back. It is 100 per cent a privilege to perform these shows. It only started out as a small acoustic thing.”
Olly made a special shoutout to the council who he explained have been ‘brilliant and also owner of the Boat, Daren Deadman.
He added that ‘as long as people keep showing up and taking their litter home with them’ that he hopes the shows will long continue.
In a social media post, the band said: “We're not entirely sure how long we'll be allowed to continue doing it like this with it growing week on week.
“We are aware we don't have enough speakers to ensure everyone gets the same quality of sound, but we also don't have the money to buy another eight speakers, so we're in a bit of a conundrum on that one.”
You can catch the band at The Boat next Tuesday from 7pm-9.30pm.
