AN extra home is to be added in what was the grounds of Kemps Country House hotel and restaurant at East Stoke between Wool and Wareham.
Previous applications for the Wareham Road site had been rejected but a shortfall on housing targets in Purbeck has resulted in a re-think for Dorset Council. The area currently has a 3.75 year supply, compared to the 5-year target.
The area planning committee heard that the new home, at the end of terrace, would add a small property to the six already in place from a previous application.
Objections had been lodged by the parish council, the previous ward councillor and a resident – all arguing that the extra home would represent an over-development of the site.
A similar application had been refused in May 2022, with another proposal approved a year later, but was not built.
Councillors were told that the 69 square metres home would be one square metre less than the recommended standard for a three person, two-bed property, some of the proposed space with restricted headroom.
The consent was delegated to a planning officer to conclude, subject to a legal agreement being concluded over mitigation relating to Poole Harbour nutrient neutrality rules, if required.
