Concern for the welfare of a woman on Portland sparked a major search operation last night.
Police officers and the police helicopter were called at 5.30pm on Monday, July 29 to the Portland Bill area to search for a woman after a call was made to Dorset Police concerning her welfare.
Coastguard rescue teams from Portland and Wyke, as well as the coastguard helicopter responded to the incident alongside Dorset Police.
Emergency service vehicles were seen in Wide Street as a search operation got underway.
The coastguard helicopter was also seen searching the coastline on the west side of the island, particularly in the area of Westcliff.
It took rescue teams three hours to locate the woman and there were no reports of any injuries to the woman, according to Dorset Police.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "At 5.25pm on Monday, July 29, Dorset Police received a report of a concern for welfare about a woman on Portland.
"Officers assisted by the coastguard and the NPAS helicopter searched the area. The woman was located at around 8.30pm.
"There are not reports of any injuries on our log."
A spokesperson for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said last night: “HM Coastguard responded to reports of an incident in the Portland Bill area this evening.
”Alerted at around 5.30pm the coastguard helicopter from Lee-on-Solent and Coastguard Rescue Teams from Portland Bill and Wyke were sent to the scene, alongside police.”
