There was a major emergency response on Portland yesterday evening.
Police, coastguards and helicopters were deployed on the island.
Emergency service vehicles were seen in Wide Street.
The coastguard helicopter was searching the coastline.
A spokesperson for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said last night: “HM Coastguard responded to reports of an incident in the Portland Bill area this evening.
”Alerted at around 5.30pm the Coastguard helicopter from Lee-on-Solent and Coastguard Rescue Teams from Portland Bill and Wyke were sent to the scene, alongside police.”
It's understood a search was focusing on the west side of the island, particular Westcliff.
It is reported that the emergency services were responding to concerns for the welfare of an individual.
