A hotel on Portland that was listed for sale last year has been taken off the market.

As previously reported, the Portland Heights Hotel, which offers spectacular views of the Jurassic Coast, was put up for sale for offers of more than £3.75m back in October.

Now, Stephen Champion, hotel director of Christie and Co.- the estate agent that was handling the property, has confirmed that the hotel was taken off the market ‘a few months ago’ by the owners. There has been no reason given as to why the property has been withdrawn.

Paul Wogman has been the business owner for the past 31 years, and was reportedly looking to sell the multi-million-pound hotel so that he could retire, however the property has now been withdrawn from the market.  It is reported that Mr Wogman does not take an active role in the hotel business due to other full-time business commitments, with the site run by a full team of staff who handle all the day-to-day operations.

Asked whether the sale is being dealt with my another estate agent, Heights general manager Michelle Teague-Forder, said: "The hotel has not been sold, and we are enjoying an excellent start to the summer."

The hotel is a flagship for the island, and consists of 66 beds, and the View Café, which opened in 2019, serving a range of hot and cold drinks, meals and snacks.

In 2016, a planning application was submitted to what was then Weymouth and Portland Borough Council- now separated into Weymouth and Portland Town Councils respectively- to demolish the hotel and replace it with a new hotel and flats. This was unanimously voted against.

The hotel offers large function rooms and meeting facilities, with the largest room having a 160-person capacity in a theatre layout.

The listing previously said there was an 'opportunity to enlarge the accommodation facilities' with planning consent granted for the conversion of the former squash court block into 16 additional letting bedrooms. There is also a redundant basement on the site that housed a former sauna and steam room.

Acting as a hub for the community, the site has also facilitated Remembrance Day commemorations for the town, hosting refreshments for locals and veterans. It also offers
