The event runs from 11am to 2pm at the park on Radipole Park Drive.

It will feature performances by Wey Bay Rockers who will be opening the event at 11am and the Weymouth Ukuleleans who will be performing at 12.30pm in the Sensory Gardens.

There will be speeches and a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 12pm to mark the official opening.

The new kiosk run by Mumma Bees will be open serving drinks and snacks throughout the event. The kiosk is open daily during the summer from 9am until 5pm.

Weymouth Town Council, working in partnership with the Friends of Radipole Park Gardens received just over £1 million to enhance the park and gardens from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The car park has been refurbished and expanded, offering more spaces for visitors.

New play equipment was installed in the play area, and a sensory garden provides a unique, interactive experience.

A new refreshment kiosk with a seating area and toilet facilities have also been installed, and a new pathway has been added through the park.

Deputy Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Caroline Nickinson said, “It will be great to see the community come together to celebrate and enjoy this beautiful new space at the celebration event on Saturday 10th August.

"And as the Paris 2024 Olympics have just started, why not get inspired, come along and try out the free sports facilities on offer, or enjoy a walk around the park and sensory gardens?

“I would like to thank the Friends, The National Lottery Heritage Fund, and Weymouth Town Council for all the work that’s gone into making this a place for families, friends, and neighbours to enjoy for many years to come.”

Sue Hogben, member of the Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens group said: “This fantastic project has been a real collaboration between Weymouth Town Council and the Friends group. We’d love everyone to come down, join in the fun, and support our local community during this exciting opening event.”

The sports courts will be open for free coaching and taster sessions, including Table Tennis, Pétanque, Basketball, Tennis, and Pickleball. No booking is required, and equipment will be provided. All ages are welcome to join in the fun.

The launch day event is free and open to the public to attend.
