Despite the cancellation of a popular parachute display, there are still plenty of exciting events on the cards for Weymouth Lifeboat Week.

The week of events - running from Sunday, July 28 to Saturday, August 3 -  is a fundraising initiative which also aims to raise awareness of the RNLI's work.

It's extra special this year as the RNLI celebrates its 200 year anniversary.

Weymouth is one of the RNLI’s busiest lifeboat stations on England’s south coast, operating two lifeboats – Ernest and Mabel, a Severn class all-weather lifeboat, and Jack and Phyl Cleare, a B class Atlantic 85.

Celebrations were originally due to kick off on Sunday with the Red Devils dropping in, the British Army's Parachute Display Team.

However yesterday it was announced that this event would be cancelled. Weymouth RNLI were informed that this was due to "safety reasons" however no further information was given.

The Red Devils were also set to perform as part of the Lyme Regis Lifeboat Week but, due to operational commitments, this was also cancelled.
