STEPS at Weymouth’s tip are unlikely to be replaced anytime soon.
Littlemoor and Preston councillor Peter Dickenson (Con) says the eight steps up to some skips are not ‘disabled friendly’ and has asked for the household waste site to be improved.
He described the site as “out of date and unsafe”, speaking at the July Dorset Council meeting, asking for it to be upgraded “as a matter of urgency.”
Portfolio holder Cllr Jon Andrews told him that Weymouth was not alone in having steps, which could be found at some of the authority’s ten household recycling centres, adding that staff were always available to help customers who found reaching the skips difficult.
He said that to upgrade Weymouth would require significant funding, money which the council did not have set aside, and the authority already had a list of other sites which were considered to be more of a priority, including Blandford, Wimborne and Dorchester.
