More than a hundred people and their families were treated to the ride of their lives on a thrilling speedboat journey.

Wetwheels Hamble, an accessible powerboating organisation, made its annual visit to Portland and Weymouth , offering a seafaring experience to 141 disabled individuals and their families.

The organisation is part of the Wetwheels Foundation charity which aims to build disabled people’s confidence by providing them with the opportunity to access the sea by using specially modified, fully accessible powerboats.

The vessels can be used for fishing trips, exploring the coast or learning how to pilot the craft.

Three dogs also got to enjoy the adventure and there was an unexpected appearance of dolphins who swam alongside the vessel, creating a memorable experience for all aboard.

Ted Hill MBE Chair of Wetwheels Hamble said: "Seeing the smiles on the faces of our participants and hearing the laughter as the dolphins joined us is what Wetwheels is all about.

"We aim to provide unique, memorable experiences for disabled people, and again our visit to Portland will be remembered by everyone involved."

Special adaptations were made to accommodate wheelchairs and other mobility aids.

Families who took part in the event praised the initiative for its inclusivity.

One participant said: "This has been a day we will never forget. The team at Wetwheels Hamble made sure everyone was comfortable and included. The dolphins were the icing on the cake!"

Wetwheels Hamble was launched in 2016 and is run entirely by volunteers. It relies entirely on donations form the public to provide further boat trips for disabled people.
