A chef who crashed his motorcycle after drinking three pints of lager admitted it was a “stupid mistake”.
James Patrick Robb, of Cobham Drive in Weymouth, admitted to driving a motor vehicle when over the limit and without insurance when he appeared at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court.
The charges refer to an incident on January 31 on Portland, when the 25-year-old rode his Honda motorcycle.
Tara Olney, prosecuting said: “At around 12.45am, officers attended a report of a crash on Portland Beach Road.
“They received a report of a drunk male having crashed his motorbike.
“Police found him sat next to his motorbike.
“He had several minor injuries including a cut to his right ankle, a laceration of his eyebrow and a cut to his nose.
“Robb identified himself to the police.
“He said an unknown object hit the visor of his helmet whilst he was driving at around 40mph.
“Police said he was unsteady of his feet and was slurring his words.
“He was breathalysed which he failed and was taken to custody where he provided a blood sample.
“The alcohol in his blood was 132 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milligrams - the legal limit is 80.
“His insurance was checked and he was found to have no insurance.
“He made a full admission and in his interview, he said he had three pints of San Miguel and he thought his insurance had been renewed.”
Robb told magistrates: “It was very out of character for me.
“It was a stupid mistake and I am very embarrassed.”
Robb told the court he works as a chef at Moonfleet Manor hotel in Weymouth.
He added that as a result, he has had to get lifts to work from colleagues or pay for a taxi.
Robb was disqualified from driving for 14 months, but agreed to take a drink driving rehabilitation course, which could reduce the disqualification by six weeks.
He was also fined £1,000, ordered to pay a surcharge of £400 and court costs of £85.
