Knitters have worked tirelessly on a brand-new Olympics display.
A member of an anonymous knitting duo, who bring joy to Portland Road in Wyke Regis with their remarkable post-box topper creations, has spoken about their latest design.
It features all things Olympics ahead of Paris 2024, with bronze, silver and gold medals, the Olympic rings, athletes racing along a track, as well as the Olympic torch.
The group member said: “The Olympics only comes round every four years, so we thought that this was a good opportunity to create an Olympics-themed post-box topper for the summer.
“I am a keen watcher of athletics and was very lucky to go to the London Olympics back in 2012, I had tickets for the stadium with my daughter and her partner - We got to see Usain Bolt.”
She said she will be watching the swimming, athletics, cycling, gymnastics and tennis from home this year.
The topper ‘took ages to make,’ particularly the small, hand-crafted athletes ‘who had o be wired on’ so that they would remain stood up.
The anonymous knitters have made a handful of incredible works over the years, with a particular favourite being a Christmas tree complete with lights, as well as last year’s spring creation which was covered in butterflies stuck on with wires to give the effect that they were flying.
The crafter revealed that her favourite part about being involved in creating these masterpieces is ‘seeing how much people appreciate them and say that they make them smile when they walk past'.
