The family behind a new restaurant in Dorchester have shared their excitement ahead of its opening.

Ganghyeon Kim, 34, and his wife of four years Carla Parman-Kim, 35, will be opening an Asian fusion restaurant in High East Street - in premises previously occupied by Japanese restaurant Myra's Kaiseki.

Myra’s Kaiseki, the award-winning restaurant, suddenly closed in April due to the owners' ill health, and the space has been empty since.

The new owners want to keep the name Myra's in the title of their new venture because they said the previous venue had a great reputation. They hope to use the name before relaunching with a new name later in the year.

The couple, who have a two-year-old son, Ren, moved to Puddletown last July and have been looking for a venue for guests to enjoy Mr Kim’s Korean food.

Mrs Parman-Kim, who is from Dorset, said: "My husband is from South Korea and worked as a chef. He always wanted his own place since he last ran one in Japan back in 2020, so when Myra’s came up we could not say no.”

Mrs Parman-Kim, who said she is a massive foodie, works full time within the NHS and will be supporting her husband ‘here and there’ with the project.

The couple recently went live with the announcement to social media.

Mrs Parman-Kim, said: “It’s been overwhelming to see the love and support. We were apprehensive of uploading any posts to social media but we have been really shocked. The love has been amazing.”

According to the owners, the menu will serve traditionally Korean food, as well as Japanese food.

Mrs Parman-Kim, said: “It will be around 80 per cent Korean, and about 20 per cent Japanese so people can experience the full flavour of the country.

“We’re still setting up the business at the moment, but we are aiming for August.”

Mr Kim said: “I’m excited.

"I want everything to be fresh. We will be making everything 100 per cent from scratch, for people to have nice food that is reasonably priced.”
