STEP back in time to a historic Roman town with a guided tour.

Scattered throughout the busy market town of Dorchester are traces of a Roman past.

Archaeological investigations across Dorchester have uncovered numerous important artefacts – many of which are now on display in the Dorset Museum and Art Gallery – providing insights into life in Roman Britain.

To this day, Dorchester’s modern plan still bears the imprint of Roman Durnovaria.

The tour will begin at Dorset Museum and Art Gallery, where trained guides will deliver a presentation taking visitors on a journey into Dorchester’s Roman past and archaeological history.

The tour will then lead to Roman artefacts in the museum's People’s Dorset Gallery, before embarking on a guided walk to retrace the ancient landmarks of Durnovaria.

The tour will follow the line of its defences around the town walks as well as little-known sites such as the place where the Roman baths were excavated.

The tour will begin at the welcome area at Dorset Museum and Art Gallery.

Each tour is limited to 12 participants.

The tour will take place today between 10.30am and 12.30pm.

Tickets are £20 for adults, £16 for concession, children are £8,  £12 for DNHAS Members/ Tikcetholders, £10 for concession ticketholders.
