POLICE arrested a shoplifter after a bottle of vodka was stolen from a Weymouth supermarket.

Officers on patrol in Weymouth were alerted to a suspected shoplifter in Marks and Spencer on St Mary Street.

A spokesperson for Weymouth and Portland Police said: "Officers were on routine patrol as part of Operation track in St Marys Street today when we were alerted to a shoplifter by a member of public.

"The male was located, arrested and the property was recovered and returned.

"The male is currently in Police custody.

"Thank you to the member of public who assisted in detaining the male."
