A park in Weymouth, which recently underwent a £1 million refurbishment, will be opening its new kiosk and toilet facilities today.
The newly refurbished Radipole Park and Gardens officially opened on June 28, offering a variety of sports facilities including basketball courts, tennis courts, a pickleball court, a pétanque area, and a scooter track for pre-schoolers.
Now Weymouth Town Council has announced that the new kiosk and toilet facilities will be open from Saturday, July 20 from 9am to 5pm.
The council is working with Mamma Bee’s Café to operate the new kiosk which will serve a range of drinks and snacks.
The kiosk and toilets will be open seven days a week over the summer.
Work began last summer which included the refurbishment and expansion of the car park, offering more spaces for visitors.
New play equipment was also installed in the play area, and a sensory garden provides a unique, interactive experience.
The official opening event, which was postponed due to strong winds and rain, will now take place on Saturday, August 10 from 11am to 2pm.
The new celebration event will have activities focused on the range of revamped facilities from the tennis club up to the play area. The Deputy Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Caroline Nickinson will also be in attendance.
There will also be taster sessions for tennis and pétanque on the day. Dorset Wildlife Trust will be there with an engagement stand talking to visitors about wildlife.
The new car park facility is open but due to the high number of attendees expected on the day, Weymouth Town Council is advising the public to walk into the park if possible.
The closest alternative parking is at the Swannery Car Park which is half price over the summer period.
